Lifelong Friends Have Exchanged The Same Birthday Card For 81 Years
Two women in Louisville have been sending the same birthday card back and forth for 80 years. WLKY has the story of this sweet tradition that started on April 1, 1944 when Pat DeReamer, 95, got a birthday card on her 14th birthday from her friend, Mary Wheaton. So Pat added her signature to the card and sent it back to Mary that May.
They earned a Guinness World Record in the 60th year of their tradition for the longest greetings card exchange, and this week marked 81 years! With her birthday falling on April Fools’ Day, Pat has a tradition of her own to uphold as well. She sends cards out to friends and family, wishing them a happy birthday on April 1, too.
