His name is Gabriel Anthony and he explained his motivation: “My grandma has poor eyesight, and she takes a lot of pills because of her conditions. Sometimes she takes the wrong one because she can’t see or recognize it,” “150,000 Kiwis have the same problem (low vision), so I decided to build Pill Bot to help people like her recognize their pills.”

Gabriel talked to pharmacists to understand what was needed when designing it. “Pill Bot is an artificial intelligence-powered device that has a camera and a computer in its brain.” “The camera takes a photo of the pill, and the AI model in the computer chip recognises the pill based on its training.”

Now, his grandma can check her pills using Pill Bot, which automatically sends a message to her smartphone which is read aloud via the phone’s built-in accessibility settings.
