More Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things To Help Hurricane Victims

There has been a ton of devastation from Hurricane Helene, so let’s highlight some hurricane heroes in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Adam Smith drove 18 hours from Texas when he could not get through to his daughter and her mother stuck in North Carolina. He eventually had to go the rest of the way in a private helicopter. After being reunited with his family, Smith organized Savage Operations Center, which now has 150 volunteers and dozens of choppers delivering much-needed aid to people trapped in the Appalachian mountains. A GoFundMe page created on Smith’s behalf has raised nearly $180,000 to support his group’s important work. Over half-a-million pounds of supplies have been delivered to western North Carolina by volunteers flying private helicopters after Hurricane Helene.

*A couple from Greensboro, North Carolina, Jessica and Will, had their wedding day ruined after two years of planning when the hurricane’s flood waters ripped through their venue in Virginia, so they decided to donate their wedding food to those in need and helped with the cleanup. They set up a food service area in a grocery store parking lot where people came to receive the meals.

*Celebrities have donated as well with Dolly Parton pitching in $1 million, Metallica giving $100,000 and country music superstars Luke Combs and Eric Church holding a “benefit concert” this month. It’s happening October 26, 2024, at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina to help with Hurricane Helene relief efforts. All proceeds are going to the Carolina region.
