Tom Cruise received the U.S. Navy’s highest honor.
Former St. X Tiger, Tom Cruise was awarded the U.S. Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award for his “outstanding contributions to the Navy and the Marine Corps” through his films, including Top Gun.
Tom expressed his pride in receiving the award, stating, “I admire all of the servicemen and women. I know in life, something that is very true to me, is that to lead is to serve. And I know that to my core. And I see that in the servicemen and women,” and emphasizing the importance of leading by serving.
The Navy praised Cruise for his impact on recruitment and interest in the Navy, stating that the “Top Gun” movies brought nostalgia to older audiences and sparked the interest of younger viewers in the opportunities the Navy offers.
Cruise was also commended for his roles in other films like “Born on the Fourth of July,” “A Few Good Men,” and the “Mission: Impossible” series, with his next film, “Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning,” set for release in May 2025.
