Kids Inspired By “Secret Santa” Hand Out $10,000 To Strangers
Arizona elementary teacher Derek Brown has been using CBS’s “On the Road” stories with Steve Hartman as lessons in kindness, and those lessons have been sinking in. Big time. Students and former students of Brown’s started a “Secret Santa Club” and started fundraising. They raised $8000 last year without any help from the school or district and put on their red hats to go give it out to strangers.
And this year, they raised $10,000 to give out to people they found in grocery stores. The kids found that the biggest gift they received was the joy on the recipient’s faces. One club member said it changed her completely saying, “I’ve never felt this way in my life.”
