Hero Brain Surgeon Saves 5 Malibu Homes With His Own Equipment

A brain surgeon, his son, and a neighbor ignored evacuation warnings to save their homes fighting the fires on their own right on the oceanfront in Malibu. Dr. Chester Griffiths says it wasn’t just physical bravery. He planned for years in advance for the disaster by buying high pressure hoses, professional firefighting gear and flame retardant knowing they were in a fire prone area.

For two straight days and nights, they fought the blaze struggling to put out flames wherever they erupted and saved five houses. More and more stories of residents who saved their houses with garden hoses are coming to light. Susan Salser did that.

This family pumped pool water and used sprinklers to save theirs.

A cinematographer in Altadena saved 8 houses with his garden hose. And this couple captured the start of the Eaton fire in Altadena on January 7th at 6:19…by 6:53 they were fleeing their home after grabbing what they could and spraying the roof with water.

Cheryll and Jeffrey Ku’s footage showed how much it spread in 30 minutes. By by some miracle, their house survived.

They were among the lucky ones as tens of thousands are displaced due to the fires.
