Inmates Are Fighting The Wildfires In Los Angeles
As fires continue to blaze through the Los Angeles area, comes the story of incarcerated people on the front lines trying to contain the disaster. Around 1,600 inmates work as firefighters in California, making up as much as 15% of the state fighting force.
The prisoners voluntarily sign up to be a part of the Conservation (Fire) Camps program, and are embedded with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection crew members (Cal Fire).
