Netflix Raising Prices — Including Ad Tier
Brace yourself because watching some of your favorite streaming shows and movies is about to cost more. That is, if you watch them on Netflix. According to CNN, the streamer is raising prices again.
- Ad-tier: $6.99 → $7.99
- Standard: $15.49 → $17.99
- Premium: $22.99 → $24.99
Netflix shows that it will allow adding additional members to the Standard and Premium plans for for $6.99 each/month with ads or $8.99 each/month without ads. You can only add one additional user with Standard, but you can add two members if you have Premium. The prices changes are already reflected on the official website.
In a letter to shareholders, Netflix explained that it plans to make improvements across the platform:
We have to continue to improve all aspects of Netflix – more series and films our members love, a great product experience, increased sophistication in our plans and pricing strategy (including more advertising capabilities) – and grow into new areas like live programming and games. If we do that well, we believe we’ll have an increasingly valuable company – for consumers, creators and shareholders.
The price changes have already been criticized on social media:
