The Oscars Will Open With A “Wicked” Medley
None of the songs from Wicked are eligible for “Best Original Song” at the Oscars, but that doesn’t mean the ceremony won’t capitalize on the movie’s massive popularity.
Realizing the crop of nominated movies and songs are largely unknown, the show will open with a medley of Wicked songs featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The movie did receive 10 nominations overall, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Erivo, and Best Supporting Actress for Grande. Composers John Powell and Stephen Schwartz also are up for Best Original Score.
