The Weeknd Credits Tom Cruise For Boosting His Career

Jimmy Fallon pointed out that The Weeknd has 27 songs with over 1 billion streams, but The Weeknd is giving a special shout-out to Tom Cruise for helping boost his career back when he lip-synced to “I Can’t Feel My Face” on The Tonight Show. LOL! He even went so far as to thank him by plugging Tom’s upcoming movie, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Being one of music’s top stars was not necessarily the goal, though. In the chat on Fallon, The Weeknd jokes that he just wanted to quit his job working at American Apparel. He told Jimmy he knew he has a good voice when a friend of his in high school told him he should try out for Canadian Idol — that was the validation he needed.

Did you know The Weeknd made the movie Hurry Up Tomorrow first? He revealed that during the interview mentioning that the album wasn’t even complete yet during filming.

I do sing in the film. I had to sing in the film. But my album wasn’t done yet, so I had to finish songs, like, day before scenes.

Like, the last scene, I’m singing and I had to finish the lyrics and the melody the day before I had to shoot it.
