Nicole Scherzinger Wins At The Tony Awards

Louisvillian Nicole Scherzinger is now a Tony Award-winning actress being named best leading actress in a musical for Sunset Blvd! She proved why with her stunning performance of “As If We Never Said Goodbye” at the 78th annual ceremony.

She was emotional as this was a childhood dream realized. Scherzinger was awarded the Whittenberg Scholarship in 1996 while attending duPont Manual High School/YPAS and used her scholarship to attend Wright State University where she majored in Music Theatre. She has paid that forward since 2013 with The Nicole Scherzinger Performing Arts Scholarship to help others! Sunset Blvd also won best musical revival.

Maybe Happy Ending, a love story involving abandoned robots, was named best musical, while Purpose, a comedy about a Civil Rights icon’s dysfunctional family, won best play. Sarah Snook was named best leading actress in a play for her one-woman tour de force in The Portrait of Dorian Gray.

Keanu Reeves was an unexpected part (especially to him!) of the Just In Time performance!

The cast of Hamilton gave a 10th Anniversary performance.
