Prospect’s July 4th Community Celebration and Fireworks Extravaganza!

Event will feature: The Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, Official Color Guard of the Parade, Musical DJ spinning tunes, train rides, bouncy houses, and games for kids. Kona Ice frozen treat, Ramiro’s Cantina and Kinnard Brothers BBQ food trucks. Fireworks!

Independence Day at Locust Grove

Live music by the Shelby Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution Fife & Drum, Louisville Brass Band, and Carolyn Dawson singing our National Anthem.

Reading of the Declaration of Independence, Historic Flag Display and Flag Retirement Ceremony and an Interactive 18th-century displays including blacksmith, violin maker, store, schoolmaster, and a Revolutionary War encampment.

Bring your own blankets & chairs or swimsuits for the kids – we’ll have lawn games like badminton and sprinklers to beat the heat!

Join us at 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning, July 4th for the St. Matthews Independence Day 5K. This race has its origins back to the 1970’s (with the course unchanged) in what was then called the St. Matthews Pavement Pounder. This fun and fast timed race begins and ends at St. Matthews Baptist Church (3515 Grandview Avenue). Walkers are welcome!

Thunder Over Patoka

This year marks the 21st year that Patoka Lake Area Year-round (PLAY) has put on this annual event. Fireworks will start at dark. Bring your family and friends, lawn chairs, blankets, refreshments, and bug spray. The entrance fee of $7 per vehicle for Indiana residents ($9 out of state) is required for the Newton Stewart State Recreation Area, Patoka Reservoir, located north of Wickliffe Indiana, Highway 164. Firecracker 5K in Marengo, Indiana

The most unique race in Southern Indiana! As underground temperatures year-round are 54 degrees, this will undoubtedly be the coolest July race around. The course will start Marengo Boys and Girls Club proceeding down SR 64 passing Marengo Cave. It then heads directly to the underground tour at mile 1 doubling back to finish just outside at the festival. Info here.
