Ozzy Osbourne Passes Away at 76

The founding father of British heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne, has passed away after a yearslong battle with Parkinson’s disease. The family released a statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

He had performed just two weeks ago at what was called Black Sabbath’s last concert, a festival titled “Back to the Beginning,” in his hometown of Birmingham, England. He was the frontman of Black Sabbath from 1969-1979 before getting booted for substance abuse and behavior. The final straw was Osbourne oversleeping and missing a show in Nashville that ended up in a riot. Variety takes you through his entire musical journey and how he met second wife, Sharon, marrying her in 1982.

The mainstream met “The Osbournes” on MTV in 2002 with four seasons showing their comical home life. Osbourne sustained spinal injuries in 2018 that would plague him until announcing in January 2020 he got the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. He retired from touring officially in February 2023 because of his declining health.

Ozzy Osbourne was 76 and is survived by wife, Sharon, and five children.
