Marines Who Stepped In To Stop Walmart Stabbing Speaks Out
Derrick Perry is a former Marine who happened to be at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, when a man with a knife started stabbing people. His instincts to protect took over and he pulled a gun on the perpetrator with the intent to get him away from people and “isolate him.” He talked to Good Morning America saying he never thought about pulling the trigger, only to try to de-escalate the situation until police arrived.
He gave kudos to the other men who also stepped in but were unarmed, one also a former Marine named Matt Kolakowski. He and his brother-in-law were picking up supplies for a boating trip and described how the scene unfolded.
The suspect, 42-year-old Bradford Gille, was arrested in the stabbing 11 people.
