Sabrina Carpenter Makes Powerful LGBTQ Statement At VMAs
Sabrina Carpenter returned to the VMAs stage for the second year in a row and if you weren’t reading the signs held up by the supporting performers on stage with her, you might have missed the big message of support she was sending to the LGBTQ community.
This isn’t her first time showing her allyship. Earlier this year, sources like Billboard and Forbes covered her massive fundraising efforts with Plus1 and how she surpassed $1 million raised in 2025 already through the The Sabrina Carpenter Fund, which supports LGBTQ+ rights, mental health initiatives, and animal welfare.
She brought that same ally energy to her live performance of “Tears” at the VMAs. Not only does the video itself display drag, but so did the stage. Dancers held signs with statements like “protect trans rights,” “dolls dolls dolls,” “support local drag,” and “gay rights are human rights.”
And if that didn’t get your attention, she performed the dance break of the song in simulated rain getting soaked to the song with lyrics to match.
Her new album, Man’s Best Friend, released on August 29. Before it came out, she warned that it would not be for the faint of heart — or the pearl clutchers.
