“Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” Coming To Theaters For 50th Anniversary
Disney will re-release the original 1977 version of Star Wars: A New Hope, the one that started it all, in theaters on February 19th, 2027, marking the movie’s 50th anniversary. This will be the original cut, not the 1997 Special Edition that featured significant changes made by George Lucas, including CGI additions and the controversial scene where Greedo shoots first at Han Solo.
In 2004, Lucas told The Associated Press: “The Special Edition, that’s the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it’s on VHS, if anybody wants it.” He added: “It’s like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I’m sorry you saw a half-completed film and fell in love with it.”
Many fans disagreed and have been waiting decades for the original to come back. That will also be one month before Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling, arrives in theaters on March 28th, 2027.
