The Oscars Are Moving To YouTube in 2029
YouTube secured exclusive worldwide rights to broadcast the Oscars starting in 2029 through 2033, marking a major shift from traditional television.
ABC retains broadcast rights through 2028 but then starting with the 101st ceremony, it will stream free globally on YouTube, including red carpet coverage and behind-the-scenes content. Sources indicate YouTube paid over nine figures for the rights, surpassing offers from Disney/ABC and NBCUniversal.
The Academy started shopping for a new broadcast partner this year after ratings declined on traditional television.
