Matthew McConaughey Trademarks Himself To Combat AI
Matthew McConaughey is making moves to crack down on AI use of his image and voice without his consent. He got eight trademarks to from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that includes his “Alright, alright, alright!” line from 1993’s Dazed and Confused in December 2025.
Additional trademarks cover video clips and audio phrases including “Just keep livin’, right?” followed by “I mean” and “What are we gonna do?” The registration gets granular by describing his famous catchphrase as “a man saying ‘ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT’, wherein the first syllable of the first two words is at a lower pitch than the second syllable.” The strategy provides federal court standing beyond state publicity rights. “We have a tool now to stop someone in their tracks or take them to federal court,” said attorney Jonathan Pollack.
