New Documentary Shines The Spotlight On A Louisville True Crime Case
An HBO documentary about a 2009 murder has drawn a wave of visitors to a Fourth Street home in Old Louisville, and some residents say the attention is raising concerns about respect for the neighborhood and for the victim.
The two-part documentary, Murder in Glitterball City, chronicles the killing of James Carroll, whose body was found in a plastic storage container buried in the basement of a home off Fourth Street. The house was shared by Jeffrey Mundt and Joseph Banis, each of whom blamed the other for Carroll’s death.
The documentary was inspired by David Dominé’s 2021 nonfiction book A Dark Room in Glitter Ball City. Old Louisville draws visitors year-round for its Victorian architecture, history, and ghost tours. But reesidents said this wave of interest feels distinct from typical neighborhood curiosity.
The documentary is now streaming on HBO.
