‘American Idol’ Postpones Elimination After Record Amount Of Votes
American Idol made unprecedented history Monday night when host Ryan Seacrest announced no elimination would occur after the season’s first live show. “We will not be announcing the elimination tonight,” Seacrest told audiences. “First time it’s ever happened. Believe me, I’ve been here every night. We want to make sure we get every vote counted.”
Record-high viewer votes during the Top 14’s live performances made accurate tallying impossible within the broadcast timeframe. The night featured songs of faith, with standout performances from Keyla Richardson singing “Jireh,” Jordan McCullough’s “I Can Only Imagine,” and Rae’s “Up to the Mountain,” which judge Lionel Richie called “perfect.” Judge Carrie Underwood praised multiple contestants, telling Kyndal Inskeep “I don’t know how you are not super duper famous already.”
On top of the amazing contestants performances, Carrie Underwood blew the roof off with some Platinum Tickets winners singing “How Great Thou Art”!
