Taylor Swift Sued Over Her Latest Album Name
A Las Vegas showgirl is suing Taylor Swift over the name of her latest album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ “American’s Got Talent” contestant Maren Wade started writing a column in the Las Vegas Weekly called “Confessions of a Showgirl” in 2014 about her experiences as a performer in the entertainment industry. It turned into a podcast and live show that she trademarked covering live stage performances, theatrical productions and TV, among other things.
Swift did request to trademark the album title last August but was rejected by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, specifically due to potential confusion with Wade’s mark. She went with it anyway. One thing Swift might have in her arsenal to fight back is that Wade posted several videos to social media using Swift’s music and ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ hashtags before launching the lawsuit.
Swift has yet to comment on the suit, but released a music video for ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ which features clips of the song’s namesake in various films.
