Taylor Swift’s Biggest Confessions In Writing Her Biggest Hits
She’s being called one of the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters and sat down to dish on some confessions behind her biggest hits. The New York Times talks to Taylor Swift about her process that she says never works out the same way. She started writing songs at 12 and has hundreds of songs to her credit, earning 36-year-old Swift a spot in the Songwriters Hall of Fame as the youngest woman inducted.
“Love Story” is the first time she felt like she didn’t care if nobody liked the song because she loved it. That one she wrote in her bedroom at 17, mad at her parents because they wouldn’t let her go on a date with “an older guy”. Then she quips that’s why “you need to discipline your kids. Because they might write songs. That go number 1.” As for the process, some songs she said, “started from the beginning, some from the end, some quickly, some happened over time.” There wasn’t one same formula for crafting her hits. Her inspiration came from many areas including, yes, her life, but also from characters, books, fables, movies, etc.
