Shakira Plays For 2 Million Fans At Free Copacabana Concert
Following in the footsteps of Madonna and Lady Gaga, 2 million fans packed Copacabana Beach to watch Shakira perform May 2nd.
The nearly 30-song set featured hits including “Hips Don’t Lie,” “She Wolf,” and “Waka Waka,” with special guest appearances by Brazilian artists Anitta, Maria Bethania, and Caetano Veloso. “I arrived here when I was 18 years old, dreaming about singing for you,” Shakira told the massive crowd. “And now look at this. Life is magical.” Despite being free admission, local government officials estimate Shakira’s concert will generate approximately $150 million in tourism revenue for Rio de Janeiro.
