Serena Williams Is Coming Back To Tennis
Tennis legend Serena Williams will return to competitive play at 44, accepting a wild-card invitation for the HSBC Championships in London next week.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion retired in 2022 after dominating women’s tennis during the open era. “Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter,” Williams stated Monday. “Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career.” illiams holds 73 career singles titles, four Olympic gold medals, and spent 319 weeks as WTA’s top-ranked player. Her Grand Slam victories include six Wimbledon titles, four Australian Opens, and two each at the U.S. Open and British Open. She also won 14 major doubles titles with sister Venus Williams.
WTA Chair Valerie Camillo praised Williams as “one of the greatest athletes of all-time” whose return expresses “her passion for competition.”
