The One Reason Tom Holland Won’t Host ‘SNL’
Tom Holland revealed he has turned down multiple Saturday Night Live hosting opportunities due to his dyslexia and fear of reading cue cards during live broadcasts. Speaking on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, 30-year-old Holland explained his concerns about the show’s handwritten cue cards used for last-minute script changes. “I’m just so petrified at the concept of, like, trying to read something and they change [it],” Holland said.
He clarified that while he can read fine, reading aloud creates “a mental block” where he can “freeze.” Holland described table-read days as his “worst day” on film sets, requiring him to highlight and memorize lines beforehand. Being a former SNL cast member, Poehler offered encouragement, joking: “You have to remember, there have been people that have hosted that have been fully on drugs. So I think you can do it.”
