The Song Dolly Parton Said She Wanted Played At Her Funeral
Dolly Parton spoke in 2011 to Entertainment Tonight about the song she would one day like played at her funeral, and it wasn’t her iconic “I Will Always Love You.” That song was made famous sung by Whitney Houston, and it was played at Houston’s funeral. But Dolly’s choice is the gospel song, ‘If We Never Meet Again.’ She said it was her late father’s favorite song, and it was played at his funeral.
As for her namesake amusement park, Dollywood, the “show must go on.” Dollywood Parks and Resorts president, Eugene Naughton, spoke of Dolly’s passing and what it meant for operations in a video address August 26th. “This is a really heavy day for all of us here at Dollywood Parks and Resorts,” “We’ve been dealing with the news of our Dreamer in Chief passing, and I want to speak directly to you to make sure you realize that she’s alive and well here.”
Naughton also assured fans the theme park would continue carrying out her vision “not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams.” And here’s another fun fact: Dolly recorded a new song she doesn’t want anyone to hear until her 99th birthday in 2045! It’s locked away in a vault in Dollywood until then!
Fans are still placing flowers and gifts outside her home in Nashville as cars slowly drive by paying their respects.
