AMC Theaters Bringing Dolly Parton Movies Back

As fans continue to mourn the loss of Dolly Parton, a Change.org petition calling for Nashville International Airport to be renamed Dolly Parton International Airport has surged past 127,000 signatures. Nashville comedian Lydia Popovich originally launched the petition last year, but it gained renewed traction after Parton’s passing. Tennessee State Senator Todd Warner pledged to introduce legislation supporting the name change, but airport board members noted current BNA bylaws prohibit renaming the facility for someone unless they have been dead for at least two years.

In the meantime, AMC Theatres is bringing back two of Parton’s biggest movies: “Steel Magnolias” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” The films will be screened in roughly 200 locations across the U.S. beginning Friday and continuing through Sept. 2.
