Reporter Leaves Live Shot To Help Cyclist After Collision
While reporting live, ABC7’s Christian Piekos stopped mid-sentence to rush and help a cyclist who collided with a runner. Piekos was reporting on the weather when he witnessed the incident and ran over to see if they needed assistance.
The anchors cut away and came back to get the update on what happened, as it wasn’t shown on camera. He reported the cyclist flipped over his handle bars breaking his helmet and damaging his bike, but that he was “walking it off.”
Comments rolled in praising his intuition to help regardless of being on live TV: This is the type of reporter I want to watch, someone who knows when to put down the mic and has morals. I don’t think there are many in his position that would have any conviction whatsoever to act as he did, let alone put down the mic live on air… I hope he gets a raise. Another commented: Nice that he put people first!
