An Abandoned Shih Tzu Now Has 75 Humans To Love On Him

An abandoned 7-year-old Shih Tzu named Chewy has found the most unexpected and loving new home.

His new best buddies are the 75 seniors at an assisted-living center in Kyle, Texas. He was found wandering Austin streets with matted fur by facility employee Priscilla Duran. Chewy had a microchip and they contacted his owners, who not only refused to claim him, but blocked her calls!

So the management decided he “already house-broken, well-mannered and didn’t bark at anything,” so he’s their newest resident. He’s got a wardrobe of snappy outfits, joins in on Scrabble nights and provides unofficial therapy services. He particularly helps dementia patients communicate.

“Our residents understand what it’s like to start fresh somewhere new,” Duran said. “Just like they found a welcoming place here, Chewy has too.”
