Man Walking Around The World Nearing The End Of His 27 YEAR Journey

Karl Bushby, a British man who has made it his mission to walk around the world, is about to finish the odyssey 27 years after it began. He had two rules for himself when he started his walk in 1998: He can’t use any mechanical transportation and he’s not going home until he finished! He certainly got his steps in…over 30 THOUSAND MILES. He started when he was 29 and turned 56 this year. He traveled across the America’s, to Russia, across Asia and now Europe. Why did he want to do all of this? Life is short and he wanted to live it to the fullest.

There were naturally some challenges and scary moments along the way! In 2000, he crossed the dangerous Darian Gap, the only way to pass from South to Central America. It was in the middle of a war zone , cartels and tough jungle. He crossed Alaska into Siberia and had a run in with a polar bear. He was barred from walking through Russia or Iran, he swam the Caspian Sea. And now he may have to swim the English Channel to get home.

And as this chapter closes, he says he feels uncomfortable. It’s like retiring from a career and figuring out what’s next. He’s not the only one doing something like this, though he’s the one that is taking the longest time! Tom Boerman was on a similar journey trying to walk to all seven continents in a shorter time frame, and raised money to build four schools in Nepal.
