Miley Cyrus Wrote Avatar Song From Personal Experience

Miley Cyrus, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt were nominated for Best Original Song for Motion Picture at the 2026 Golden Globes for “Dream As One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash, but ultimately lost to “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters. However, the song stemmed from Miley’s real life experience from having lost her home in the LA wildfires. She chatted with Entertainment Tonight about it backstage:

I felt very confident in having the life experience of losing my house to the fire and actually during that process, I was making a record with Mark and Andrew, so [they] experienced that with me. So, it felt like we were totally — you know — we were the right people for the job. So, I think coming in with the idea that I felt like I knew what needed to happen and we did it with the guidance of — you know — Simon and Jim, of course.

Mark Ronson added that they were inspired by the movie’s themes of loss and grief and that they strived to achieve that emotionality at the end of the movie.

There were jokes, and potential hints, at the close of the interview that Miley will perform “Dream As One” at the 2026 Oscars. However, as of now, performers have not been announced.

The Oscars will be held Sunday, March 15, 2026 and will air on ABC. Nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 22!
