Police Officer Rescues Woman Living At Her Husband’s Grave In The Best Way
Steve Hartman and CBS Evening News bring you the story of a 55-year-old woman who was living at the only place she felt she owned, her husband’s grave.
Rhea Holmes and her husband, Eddie, had their offer on a house in Syracuse, New York accepted. But one of the best days of their 26-year marriage was the worst, when Eddie passed away. Rhea took that down payment and instead bought a cemetery plot and bench so she could sit and visit. She unfortunately slipped into a depression that resulted in her losing her job and getting evicted. She lived at his grave from last May to last month until an “angel” arrived.
That angel is Syracuse Police Officer Jamie Pastorello who heard about her story and couldn’t let her continue to live like that. He started a crowdfunding campaign and got her a house with the help of the nonprofit, “A Tiny Home for Good.” In 20 days, she went from sleeping at her husband’s grave to her own home.
