Doctor Adopts Young Heart Patient Who Showed Up For Surgery Alone
True Beethe of Omaha, Nebraska, just celebrated his 10th birthday surrounded by a family he didn’t used to have.
At the age of 5 in 2022, he was dropped off at Children’s Nebraska by social services for a 7-hour heart surgery due to his congenital heart defect known as hypoplastic right heart syndrome.
Anesthesiologist Dr. Amy Beethe found him in pre-operative care and was stunned no adult was with him at the time. So despite having 6 kids already, she asked her husband that night about making True a part of their family. But it didn’t stop there…True had 5 siblings all living in an unstable home. So Beethe rallied her troops to find them ALL homes!
First, she got her sister and her husband to agree to adopt True’s sister TyLynn. True’s other sister, Tyra, was adopted by Beethe’s sister-in-law and her husband. A coworker and her husband took in brother Tacari and sister Malia as part of their family. But there was one left…sister Laney. So the Beethe’s took her in too! How AMAZING is that??
