Students Take Over After Their School Bus Driver Suffers An Asthma Attack
Five middle school students worked together to come to the aid of their school bus driver and stop the bus after a medical emergency. Security video shows the kids taking control when their bus was on a four-lane highway in Mississippi, carrying 40 kids on board. The driver, 46-year-old Leah Taylor, had an asthma attack that caused her to black out.
Sixth-grader Jackson Casnave, 12, grabbed the wheel after noticing the bus had started to swerve. Another sixth-grader, Darrius Clark, attempted to help by stepping on the brakes but then clicked the air brakes, which ” about threw me out the windshield.” The two students managed to slow the bus and maneuver it into the median and park it. Clark’s sister, 13-year-old Kayleigh, called 911.
15-year-old Destiny Cornelius noticed the driver was holding a nebulizer and held it up to her face while 13-year-old McKenzy Finch held her head and picked up the driver’s phone to tell the school district what happened. The students were recognized for their actions at a school pep rally on Friday.
