Good Commencement Speaker Versus Bad Commencement Speaker
First, the GOOD commencement speaker!
Students at North Carolina State University’s Wilson College of Textiles were stunned when their commencement speaker revealed that their final year student loans would be paid off in full. The gift is from businessman Anil Kochhar and his wife, Marilyn, and it was to honor his late father, who went to NC State and studied textiles. The gift covers 176 undergraduate and 26 graduate students.
Now for the opposite end of the spectrum. Things got awkward at the University of Central Florida when speaker Gloria Caulfield called A.I. “the next Industrial Revolution”, and then everyone in the crowd started booing.
Oof. A clip posted on Instagram captioned it: “Expecting students bankrupted by their education to celebrate the very thing that will make their degree worthless is the final boss of tone deaf.”
