News Anchors Talk About A New Scam That Sounds Legit
Veteran CBS News correspondent Matt Gutman almost emptied his bank account after receiving a convincing phone call from a scammer posing as a fraud protection agent. In a video shared Friday on his X account, Gutman revealed the caller knew his personal banking details and instructed him to withdraw all his cash. He got suspicious when he was told to hide the plan from bank staff. “Some of these scams are incredibly sophisticated,” he warned.
Another former news anchor wasn’t so lucky and fell for a scam that wiped out her life savings! Alex Delgado worked at KSEE in Fresno for 22 years and put her savings into a banking and investment app called Robinhood when she retired. Delgado says she got a text from someone she thought was from Robinhood telling her there was suspicious activity on her account and to call a number. Over two days, she says the scammer, who turned out not to be from Robinhood, gained her trust and convinced her to transfer her ENTIRE ACCOUNT.
