One-Armed Basketball Player Makes Division III History
A college basketball player with one arm made Division III women’s basketball history!
Baileigh Sinaman-Daniel was born with a right arm too small to adequately use, but through persistence and hard work, she had an amazing moment making a three-pointer in a game! She started playing basketball her freshman year in high school, only to get cut from the team her senior year! But she got back at it and ended up having multiple offers from colleges.
She plays for Lesley University now as a junior guard, and they were playing Fitchburg State when she sent the shot sailing, making her the first female basketball player with only one arm to score in a Division III game.
Coach Martin Rather said, “When the shot went in I thought, ‘Hey, we have to preserve this moment for as long as we possibly can,’” “That also allows the team to come out and embrace her, which they did, on the court, and gives us a second to reflect on the tremendous hard work and dedication it takes to get to that point.”
She added another chapter when she scored again on her birthday, in a game seven weeks later.
