Local Family Running KDF Races For Third Family Member Diagnosed With Alzheimer’s
A local family is running the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon to raise money for our local Alzheimer’s Association chapter because their patriarch, Phil Burch, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease late last year. He is the third of his siblings to be diagnosed.
This December, his family spent Christmas together, coming to terms with the news. His son, Kevin Burch, and Kevin’s wife, Katie Burch, and their three children Neville, 25, Preston, 14 and Millie, 11, hatched a plan to raise awareness and funding by running in the Kentucky Derby Festival races and ask their network to donate to our Alzheimer’s Association chapter in Phil’s honor. Since then, they’ve raised $1,790 and they’re ready for race day this weekend.
The local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is an official race charity and more than $3,123 has been raised of their $10,000. This year, the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation is offering a matching donation. For every $500 raised by each participating charity, the Foundation is donating $100.
Millie, the 11-year-old, is running the 5K the night before, while her parents and older siblings are set to run the 13.1- mile miniMarathon. Cheer them on this weekend and donate to their team HERE.
