Seniors “Walk the Beat” With Cops In Boston
Senior citizens are helping beat cops in Boston “Walk the Beat”…that’s the name of program cooked up by the Boston Police Department during the pandemic to keep seniors active, engaged, and safe.
Police officers escort groups of seniors on a walk around the city. Other times they organize yoga classes or exercise programs. The program now includes dozens of women and some men all over the age of 55. They meet Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., and they are a chatty lively bunch! The seniors love it and many who didn’t have many people left in their lives have found new connections and friends in the group.
The police officers make conversation, guarantee they get across roads safely, and drive any stragglers back home in their squad cars if they can’t carry on.
