Teen Starts Smashburger Business To Feed Veterans For Free

Long Island high schooler Will Burrell has started a smash burger business where veterans eat free. A portion of its proceeds also goes to support current military members and their families.

He was inspired by his time at a military-style boot camp in Vermont and talking with veterans. He started selling his patties at an event and donated $1500 to the Gary Sinise Foundation, which has raised millions for defenders, veterans, first responders, and their families. After that, he set up shop in the corner of a local butcher shop to start his business.

He personally smashes patties and leaves handwritten, positive messages like “strive to inspire” on his customers’ brown bags. He says “I’m super grateful for our veterans,” “I’m grateful for this country. We live in the greatest country on the planet.”
