Helicopter Rescues Goldendoodle From A River In Upstate New York
Deputies in Van Buren, New York, rescued a dog from the freezing Seneca River on Monday evening in dramatic fashion…by helicopter.
The sheriff’s office got a 911 call around 6 p.m. reporting a dog swimming in the river. That was Cooper the goldendoodle who got loose and jumped off a dock into the river while a group of people tried to catch him. Deputies responded found Cooper struggling to stay above water in the river too far out to just swim to him.
So Sgt. Jim Farley guided the County Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter over the water and Deputy Levi Taylor was able to climb out of the side of the helicopter and pull Cooper out of the water. They got him out within 15 minutes of the call.
He was cold and shivering but the nearby Fire Department was waiting to warm him up with blankets. The temperature outside that day was around 35 degrees!
