Former Foster Kid’s Charity Provides Backpacks and Supplies to Kids In The System
JackEdward Schmick was in the foster care system from ages 5 through 10 before getting adopted, and knows what it’s like to have nothing. He tells ‘GMA’ how “demoralizing’ it was to have your belongings in a black trash bag going from home to home. Once he was in a stable situation, he wanted to give back to kids walking the path he walked.
That’s how Bags for Buddies was born. Now at age 20 and a college student, his charity has been providing backpacks with supplies to foster kids for 10 years now. And he’s written a memoir called “Your Biggest Opponent” sharing how he persevered and overcame his background.
